Congratulations

Congratulations to Ebbw Vale RFC! The 52 - nil victory over Tredegar on Saturday meant they won the Swalec Div 1 East title for the second successive year. They have one more (rearranged) fixture left - playing Mountain Ash at Eugene Cross Park on Wednesday evening.

Congratulations also to Merthyr Town FC - Their 1 - 0 victory over Ilfracombe Town on Saturday means they are Champions of the Toolstation Western League. They are now promoted to the Southern League.

A Little Exercise

Last Sunday saw many events taking place in aid of Sports Relief. One of those events took place at Eugene Cross Park in the form of a mile (or three or six if you felt like it - I didn't!) run / walk / jog.

So my oldest daughter Jema and I wandered around three laps of the field, later joined my youngest Eve for another few laps in the sunshine. A good way to start Sunday morning!

A mention too for the people at Ebbw Vale Leisure Centre who organised the morning - great effort!

Weekend rugby

Ebbw Vale take on Carmarthen RFC this afternoon in the SWALEC Cup. Having disposed of newport in the last round Ebbw will be looking to defeat another Premiership team.

Having arrived back home from work this morning the wind has certainly picked up and, with the rain too, may put pay to a spectacle of rugby. Still, as long as Ebbw win!

On a sadder note I read last night that the game between Pontypridd and Tonmawr has been called off with Tonmawr unable to field a side. Hope they manage to resolve their problems.

Parking in Ebbw Vale Town..

Went down to Ebbw town centre this morning for some bits & pieces. Like many, I refuse to use the car park by Argos so I parked in the multi storey car park.

Down in the town the parking (loose use of the term) has to be seen to be believed. Cars up on the paved areas so people have to weave in & out. Seems more cars in the town than in the car parks!

The area by Peacocks is a right mess and needs sorting out. If the council are happy for cars to be parked there then they need to set out an area that cannot be parked on so cars can get in & out safely.

People could always use the multi storey car park.. ..But then people would have to walk an extra ten or twenty yards to the shops..

Ebbw Vale destroy newport in Cup

An excellent (yet not that surprising) result for Ebbw Vale RFC on the weekend with a convincing win against newport.

Next up in the cup is Carmarthen at EXP on February 18th..

Bristol Balloon Fiesta

Just six months to go until this years Balloon Fiesta in Bristol.

Set in the grounds of Ashton Court it is a spectacular four day event. With everything from tethered ballons of all shapes and sizes, mass balloon ascents, 'night glows' (around thirty balloons tethered and lit, synchronised to music!), fireworks and many trade stands.

The event is a really good day out (it's a full day if you stay for the night glows!) and entrance is free - you only pay to park the car.

Weekend sports action..

Ebbw Vale RFC take on newport rfc tomorrow in the Swalec cup at Dave Parade. Also Manchester United take on Liverpool in the FA Cup. Both games will probably see a fair bit of banter between the fans!

Also, Merthyr Town FC take on Wells City in the Toolstation Western Premier League.

Giving is in your..

Booked in next Wednesday to give my 22nd unit of blood at Eugene Cross Park - home of Ebbw Vale RFC.

They are there on Wednesday (1st) & Thursday (2nd) from 10am to 6pm - why not pop down and give it a try - you'll probably help to save someone's life!

Ebbw Vale Welfare Bowls Club

Ebbw Vale Welfare Bowls Club have a website giving periodic updates on their fixtures, results, league tables, etc.

The website has had a clean up with last years fixtures being moved to the 2011 archive. This allowed me to include this seasons mens fixtures. The club gained promotion last season into Division three of the MBA.

There has been some pictures added of the 2011 awards in the news section.
